Is it actually more positive? I see a lot of pretending, and for all the talk of how everything has changed and we are now facing new realities all I see are increasing costs layered on the industry, the carbon tax and Pathways $billions.

How do you interpret our Oxford educated genius megamind prime minister when he says we need the carbon tax to make our oil “competitive”?

Agreed. I am starting from a low bar and viewing this in the light of his predecessor. Yes, Pathways is a dumb idea that most likely will result in stranded capital and an edifice to stupid policy.

If pathways gets built, on day one it will be the biggest white elephant in canadian and maybe world history.

As to Carney what I see is “meet the new boss, same as the old boss”

Except worse as now there is the Oxford veneer on the economically illiterate statements.

Piling on, for the first time in my life I have a liberal as my MP, Corey Hogan, who I keep asking to explain the illiteracy.

To no avail.

I’m a supplier to industry here in Alberta and the biggest issue with Carney nonsense is that just like the Trudeau nonsense the one guarantee is job cuts. All of this crap increases these companies costs but price is fixed and the end result is always job cuts as they try to protect their margins.

That is the only guarantee we have from all of this.

There’s no guarantee of a pipeline or more barrels, just higher costs and therefore loss of paying jobs.

And the morons will cheer it.

I’m torn on Smith, I don’t know if she believes what she is saying or if she is saying words needed to show she is trying and then when it inevitably collapses under its own nonsense she shrugs and says she tried?

You see the earnings. The investment isn’t coming with a gun to anyone’s head. The Alberta Conservatives haven’t saved a dime since Lougheed, and have had 1/2 dozen oil booms to try with.

Don’t take this as an endorsement of anything or any party. I’ve bought and sold, more than once, enough CNRL or Tourmaline to buy a decent house in Calgary. I have investments in drilling. Canada is the best place to make money from oil in the world. There’s others, like Saudi Arabia, like Norway, like America, but guess what? You’re not getting the margins companies in Alberta are. You’re not in a war zone. You don’t have a lunatic running your country either, politics aside, Trump is not a stable investment. See the bond market, where the votes are being tallied daily. Canada is having a renaissance in business, and all the anti-Trudeau crowd can’t stand it.

As an aside, who committed Canada to taking on the TMX? You won’t hear mention of it in certain circles in Alberta, but they sure don’t mind the cash flow. I know. I live here.

“Alberta has a low royalty rate compared to rates in countries that have similar quality of resource. Alberta takes from 25% to 40% of profit, equivalent to 10% of gross revenue. Venezuela, which has the most comparable resource, takes 40% of gross revenue – four times as much as Alberta. Saudi Arabia takes 85% of profit and Norway takes 80% of profit – both three times as much as Alberta. Newfoundland/Hibernia takes 30% to 50% of profit plus 7.5% of gross revenue – twice as much as Alberta.”

Maybe let’s not navel gaze too intently, as Canadians.

I think companies should be rewarded for investment, and I have been, and could be again, a shareholder in a Canadian energy company.

Understand though, the Royalties were set as an incentive to develop heavy oil and the tar sands, along with conventional production, decades ago. Today tar-sands are turned to oil for between $16 & $28 U.S. dollars/barrel.

The royalties today are some of the lowest in the World, and Canada is amongst the safest places to invest. Some would say we are giving away our legacy. Our natural wealth sold on the cheap. Without an honest reconning, we can’t be sure.

Wait until later this year when oil and gas are trading lower, and the government’s cash cow gets reduced significantly. Maybe PM “net zero” Carney and the rest of the Liberal regime will find another way to collect taxes from their $20 billion “carbon capture” scam that no company in their right mind will invest in. The oil and gas industry continues to be demonized by the Elbows Up retired boomers in Canada in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, and B.C. with public pensions and paid off mortgages posting all day long now how Carney is great and Trump is evil. They are completely insulated from the consequences of their forever Liberal vote. Canada deserves all the pain that is coming soon thanks to these people. Someone please help it make sense. 🤦 🇨🇦
